Greening Existing Buildings

This interactive one-day course directed at architects, developers, owners, engineers, contractors, facility managers, property managers and tenants combines lectures and case studies to provide participants with practical and applicable examples of greening existing buildings.

Colin Devenish, executive manager: operations of the V&A Waterfront, will share his first-hand experience of improving the operational performance of facilities that he has managed through his career. In addition, the GBCSA and other experts from the local property industry will showcase greening and performance improving techniques.

The course covers low cost/ no cost improvements, optimising energy and water efficiency, implementing sustainable purchasing and waste management policies, improving indoor environmental quality (including maximising occupants’ health and comfort), and implementing green cleaning policies.

Included is a free copy of the Existing Building Survival Strategy Guide developed by the Green Building Council of South Africa in conjunction with Arup.
